Wir freuen uns sehr, dass du am HOFA XMAS MIX Contest teilgenommen hast und möchten dir hier ein kurzes Feedback geben.

We noticed that the choir seems to be a little bit indirect and distant in your mix. This is mainly because of a relatively dull and muffled frequency response. You should try to give this signal (s) a bit more of high frequency energy and maybe boost the studio mics a little to make the choir more open and direct. This is also important to get a good intelligibility.

It’s quite obvious that you had your very own sounding interpretation of this mix. Although we chose a different way of course we can clearly hear your vision and your own sound can surely lead to some kind of “signature sound“. 

The higher frequencies of your mix contain a bit too much energy. There is no problem with that and it works pretty well but you should keep an eye on the S-sounds. They tend to have a little bit too much of energy which is noticeable by listening to the Lead Vocals at some points. 

The sidechaing fits the song really well. We like the fact that you didn’t put too much energy into this special kind of compression so the song appears to be natural although it features a danceable beat. :)

As you might have noticed while mixing this song, we gave you two Lead Vocal tracks – one of them with the sibilants cut out. This one was meant to be mixed as a Backing Vocal track as one usually doesn't want too strong sibilants in the Backing Vocals. Fortunately, you managed the levels of these tracks pretty well. 

The screenshot below shows the comparison of frequency response. The orange curves show energy over frequency of our mix while the white curves show the frequency response of your version of this song. The upper curve is for peak levels and the lower curve shows the energy over time. Therefor the lower curve is more meaningful for the comparison. You should lower the volume of our mix by 3,5dB as the auditory AB-comparison is only valid on the same loudness level.
